View entire catalog here. This catalog contains 1164 objects. Any objects of declination less the -40 ° have been removed.
This catalog of bright stars is the same as that found in the printed version of The Astronomical Almanac. It contains those stars with visual magnitude of 4.5 or brighter in the Yale Bright Star Catalog and 5.5 or brighter in the FK5 catalog. It is intended to be an isotropic distribution of stars. To insure completeness over the range in magnitudes, two catalogs were used to create the source list. Also included are all MK atlas standards listed in the Yale Bright Star Catalog. The faintest stars in the list are roughly 7th magnitude.
Stellar positions are taken from the Hipparcos Catalogue and precessed to the equator and equinox of the middle of the year, 2017.5.
The above explanation, and this catalog were obtained from:
The Astonomical Almanac Online at the U.S. Naval Obseratory web site. It is entended that this
catalog be updated at the telescopes at least every two years.
The catalog is listed in order of Right Ascension. Each star is listed with, V-magnitude; the
Flamsteed/Bayer Designation; spectral type; and HR number. See example above.
